OTTO&ANINA

2024

Parramatta Lanes 2024

Artist(s): Samuel Kim & Lawrence Liang

Our installation is inspired by the eastern philosophical principles of Bardo, a Tibetan Buddhist concept referring to the ethereal intermediate state between death and reincarnation. Bardo represents the duality between what was and what will be.

We depict this through OTTO and ANINA, a pair of enigmatic and cute inflatable zen cat mascots split down the middle: one part past, one part future, creating an uncanny twilight zone of spirituality.

The artwork is interactive through sound, responding to nearby crowds and adjacent live music; blinking, winking and vibing to the rhythm.

Our installation reminds the audience that everything, from mountains to stars, is continuously changing, part future, part past simultaneously. This realization urges us to cherish each moment as infinitely precious.
